It’s been a wild, crazy, unpredictable year, and I’m thankful that God provided Amanda’s ‘Thinking Out Loud,’ in order to ponder things like my VERY FIRST year of blogging.
Welcome to the first ‘Year in Recovery (Review) 2015’ of Beauty in Christ. This was one of the most momentous years in recovery for me, and I owe it all to the glory of the Heavenly Father. This is going to be a recap of God’s many blessings, how awesome God is, how small I am, how big and perfect God’s plans are, how amazing God’s world is, and how hopeful I am in the year ahead that God holds in His almighty hands.
Well, the year began with… January !
January was full of enjoying the wonderful snow fall that I had missed from the year before (while being in Africa.) It also included fro-yo dates with some of my best friends and sisters in the Lord.
February (Attended my first bachelorette party and reached 1000 miles on my Garmin watch.)
When I reached the 1000 mile marker on my watch, I realized just how far God has brought me in taking away the idol of exercise. It doesn’t matter so much to me anymore if I wear my watch and burn a certain amount of calories. The more time I have to be alone, the more I see it as precious time to be with my Heavenly Father. Moments are so few on this earth, and God’s teaching me more and more everyday not to take them for granted.
March (A Month of Cupcakes and learning to say goodbye.)
Bear with me while I get a little sad. Gussie (in the basket) was our family beagle that we had for 11 years. She was 3 years old when we got her. She was the sweetest dog ever. She loved people. She loved food. She wandered far and wide and made many friends. She stole a lot of food off the table. She chased many deer, and she lived a long life. Yet, even her death reminded me that Romans 8:22 does ring true, ‘For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.’ And we are waiting in EAGER expectation for the redemption of this earth that has seen the effects of sin in death, pain, and sorrow. Praise God that we are looking forward to a day when there will be no more death, SIN, separation from God, pain, or suffering.
April (I relearned how precious children are.)
Matthew 19:14, ‘But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.’
May (Checked Red Rocks off the bucket list and enjoying my family.)
I’ve wanted to go to Red Rocks for a VERY LONG TIME, and I was SO thankful to get to see more of the majesty of the Creator in these AWESOME formations for one of my sister’s birthdays. It was absolutely wonderful.
Psalm 104:24-25, ‘ How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number– living things both large and small.’
June (I went to Fitbloggin!)
I got this bar at Fitbloggin’ called ‘Posture Fit.’ It has been 6 months (I know), and I am still planning to review it SOON. This girl needs it or else she will be come a hunchback.
July (A Month of PUPPIES)
This was the month in which I gained a new found gratitude for God’s care for even the creatures, the animals. He cares for them far more than I could EVER care for them. They remind me of God’s mercy, tenderness, and loving care.
Psalm 50:10-11, ‘”For every beast of the forest is Mine, The cattle on a thousand hills. “I know every bird of the mountains, And everything that moves in the field is Mine.’
August (Backpacking in Montana)
This trip was amazing. We got to bask in the quiet and PEACE of God’s marvelous world. We got to spend time renewing our relationships and thinking on God’s wonderful works to the children of men. We got to eat so much chocolate, and I wasn’t anxious about it. God gives us so much more than we deserve. Wow.
September (Family Wedding, Cousins)
We got to spend a week with my cousins and aunt and uncle. It was a wonderful time of seeing my FIRST cousin married, seeing Jesus Christ GLORIFIED at their wedding, and just spending time getting to know my family better.
October (A Conference at our house and the most EPIC road trip ever.)
I had the blessing of being able to coordinate a conference for about 25 guys in our house with the help of the team above! It was a CRAZY week of doing 500+ meals in our house. 🙂
We also went on a road trip that covered Idaho, Utah, Washington, Nevada, California, Oregon, and Canada. It was incredible.
November (Visiting Des Moines)
December 2015 (Lots of Christmas Gift Shopping, Remembering JESUS CHRIST the Lord, and enjoying the snow)
This Christmas season was one of the most precious I’ve experienced yet. I recounted my excitement about the season in this post!
Isaiah 11:1-10, ‘Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. And He will delight in the fear of the LORD, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear; read more.
But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked. Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist. And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them. Also the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox. The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea. Then in that day The nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.’
My heart is SO full. God has truly done wondrous things, and I am excited about the upcoming year. I plan to share a ‘New Year’s Goals’ post in the next couple days. It’s going to be a bit ‘unconventional’ I warn you.
What were some of the biggest lessons you learned this year?
What are you excited about this year? Are you scared about anything?
What was one of your favorite memories from 2015?
