Disclosure: I did receive a couple of boxes of bars in exchange for these reviews. I received product from RX Bar, Perfect Bar, and Naked Bars (3 of my FAVORITE bars). All the opinions are my own and they are completely honest. 🙂
Have you entered the epic ‘Peanut Butter’ giveaway I announced yesterday? It ends on Sunday! 🙂
Isn’t it incredible that God made SO many different foods? I love that these foods they can all go into not just hundreds but THOUSANDS of different kinds of foods. I used to be afraid of protein bars and energy bars, because I looked at them like ‘processed’ food. I had this idea that processed food was somehow bad. Now I can echo James’ words about every gift, including DELICIOUS PACKAGED processed bars in James 1:17, ‘Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.’
I’m not binding anybody’s consciences about what they eat or what bars they choose to eat, because I truly believe that it is an area of liberty. If I can eat it in faith, I eat it! If I can’t, I don’t. And God does grow us in faith everyday just as Paul praises God for the Thessalonians’ growth in faith in 2 Thessalonians 1:3, ‘We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth…’
Well, I’ve been doing the research on the best snack/protein bars. I’ve been following foodie bloggers and Instagrammers. I’m been searching high and low for bars that have simple ingredients, are filling, and taste DELICIOUS to me!
Here is what I’ve come up with on the search… I definitely do have top favorites among all of these, but I liked each bar for different reasons. 🙂
If you make it to the bottom too, I have an update on some of my struggles lately with recovery. I want to share how I’m learning more of God’s everlasting love, His compassion for His children in even chastening us, and learning to trust Jesus more everyday.
Emily’s Top 6 Favorite Protein/Snack Bars for Recovery
1. Perfect Bar . . .
Perfect Bar took the cake as my absolute favorite protein/snack bar. It’s a hefty bar, but it works perfectly as a mid-afternoon snack or a quick ‘small’ breakfast before a workout or an early morning happening. It’s amazing that they actually put 20+ super foods in each bar, because I definitely didn’t taste the tomatoes.
Why did I like the Perfect Bars so much? Well, they were really soft, JUST the right amount of sweetness, and the sweet flavor comes from natural sweeteners such as honey. I’m not giving you this from a nutritionist’s perspective, just a ‘foodie’ girl who loves trying all the incredible foods God has made. 🙂
2. RX Bar
Who knew that you could put egg whites in bars? These bars are really yummy, and the list of ingredients is SO short. The only downside about the bars for me is that they are really CHEWY which is a bit hard on my jaw. However, they are also easy on my stomach, and the short ingredients list really appeals to me. 🙂
3. Luna Bars
Luna Bars are like a chocolate covered protein bar that isn’t just a candy bar, but it’s also a protein bar. They have so many different flavors which gives them an advantage over other protein bar companies. Some of the flavors include but are not limited to:
Chocolate Salted Caramel
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Chocolate Peanut Butter
Berry Greek Yogurt
I haven’t tried all of those, but my favorites that I did try were probably the Chocolate Peanut Butter and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I’m definitely a ‘chocolate’ sort of a gal. 🙂
4. Nakd Bars
These bars are SO good, and the customer service at Natural Balanced Foods is amazing. They are SO sweet, and they so kindly sent me this box of cute little bars. The upside about Nakd Bars is that they are small. They are so small that you can have one as a snack an hour before dinner if you are just a ‘leetle’ hungry, and you want a small snack to tide you over.
They also do a FANTASTIC job on nailing their flavors. Their ‘rhubarb and custard’ bar actually tastes like a tart custard bar. It’s amazing. 🙂 The bars are soft and a little bit crunchy, and if you’re like me you might want to top them with some nut butter.
5. Square Bars
Now, these are noteworthy, because they combine two of my favorite things, SOFTNESS (in a bar) and chocolate. Each bar is coated in chocolate, but it’s not an overload on sweetness. Of course, you are talking to a girl who likes sweets. It’s so amazing that God’s variety and beauty is so evident even in all the ways we’ve found to use chocolate.
I even bought 3 boxes of Square bars, because they REGULARLY have discounts of 20% off for special occasions. If you follow them on Instagram, you can get in on some of those discounts. Hint: I’m also doing a ‘recovery’ giveaway on Instagram that includes a box of their ‘Chocolate Coconut’ bars. 🙂
These bars are SO delicious and so simple to make. They’re not packaged, but they are definitely up there as one of the best bars I’ve ever had. I almost always have the ingredients needed for these bars, and you can vary the add-ins such as different nuts, fruits, and even chocolate! 🙂
How is recovery going? It’s up and down. I’m learning that the description of what man is like by nature in James 1, without God as our refuge and strength, is incredibly true. James 1:5-8 says, ‘If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.’
I am so grateful that God is my refuge and strength in this storm of life. Life is tough. The devil hates Christians. He hates us because we have Christ in us, and he will always try to subvert us, deceive us, lie to us, just like he did in Genesis. Yet, this is my comfort.
Matthew 16:17-19, ‘ And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rocka] I will build my church, and the gates of hellb]shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosedc] in heaven.”
I’m thankful that Jesus is our rock, that He is our precious cornerstone. I’m thankful that because of Him, I can never be moved or separated from His love.
1 Peter 2:6, ‘Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.’
