I praise God that I have come a LONG way since I first struggled with my eating disorder. I used to be so afraid of dessert. I wanted sugar, but I told myself that I couldn’t have it, because it would be bad to have it. Yet there are definitely times when I don’t feel like dessert.
I don’t know how I got the idea that sugar (from sugar cane), a plant that God created was bad, but I did, and it was miserable.
Now, a bowl of this tastes really good, but I rarely feel like more than one bowl.
It really is all about moderation and balance. Too much of anything isn’t good for my body, and I know why God constantly reminds us in His Word, not to make idols, not to do anything in excess, because it always takes the place of God in your life, and the idol CRUSHES you.
I also had a time when I started to swing to the other extreme. I felt like I SHOULD have dessert, or I would be restrictive, but honestly, sometimes I just don’t feel like dessert. It’s usually on the days when I’ve already consumed a goodly amount of sugar in the beginning part of the day or the days that are just not a dessert day.
On those days, I have found that a Meal Enders signaling lozenge is one of the best quick sweet substitutes for dessert. What are Meal Enders you ask?
(Disclaimer: I was provided the Meal Enders product for review. All opinions and thoughts on the flavors and the way I used the product are my own.)
A short description from their website: (You can visit the website here if you want to learn more about it for yourself. I was given product to try and review on the blog. However, all opinions expressed are 100% my own!)
MealEnders consist of two components: a sweet, outer reward layer and a cooling/tingling inner core. The outer layer provides a measured dose of “dessert” associated with the end of a meal, while the inner core engages the trigeminal nerve (the nerve that senses “taste”) with long-lasting cooling/tingling sensations that cleanse the palate.
Sucking on a lozenge when you know you’ve consumed enough — but can’t stop — keeps your mouth and mind occupied during the 20-minute Overeating Zone, giving your body’s natural satiety process time to catch up. MealEnders are an easy, safe and sustainable way to curb your appetite.
Each Signaling Lozenge contains only 2 grams of sugar and 15 calories…and they taste great!
The cool thing about Meal Enders is that I was a bit afraid to try them, because I always shy away from ‘diet products’ but these honestly don’t seem like a diet product. No, these aren’t substitute for a meal. They aren’t even a substitute for a dessert, but they are a little something sweet to replace that regular dessert, especially if you’re a little done having holiday desserts for a while.
What kind of people were Meal Enders formulated for? Well, they were formulated for people who struggle with over-eating or listening to their hunger signals. In complete honesty, I did struggle with eating WAY past my hunger signals after I was weight restored and recovered(ish). I would literally eat until I didn’t feel very good. God worked on me in immense ways to truly be more grateful for my food, slow down, appreciate each bite, and I am thankful, through His marvelously wonderful work in my life, that I know longer struggle with over-eating nearly as much as I did.
So, if you want a little sweet something to end your meal with, and you just aren’t in the mood for something rich, reach for a Meal Enders.
My favorite flavor?
Chocolate Mint – This one took the cake as the favorite! It was by far the yummiest and most accurate taste. 🙂
