DIETS. Aaaahhhhh…. I really don’t like the word, because in my mind it connotes something negative. However the actual definition of the word ‘diet’ that I want to focus on today is this definition that I found on Google. I really didn’t like the term ‘elimination diet’ for a while, until I realized that it could be beneficial for me in my certain situation. I am in no way telling anybody else to do them, but I’m sharing why I needed to do one for a few weeks.
I like this definition of ‘diet’ from Google:
‘the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.’
Right now I’m doing a different way of eating, because I’m working with a dietitian to figure out which foods are the most irritating to my stomach and focus on using the means God has given me to help heal my gut, so I can eat all those foods again.
I’m doing what’s called an elimination ‘low FODMAP diet’ for 2 weeks, but I’m following it loosely. I’m not being super strict with myself, because I have a history of restriction. Even though the amount of oats that is recommended isn’t more than 1/4 cup, I can’t beat myself up about eating more. I’m thankful to be in a good place right now where I can do this experimenting and discover how to best take care of my digestive system.
This elimination is to help my body not to hurt my body. My whole perspective of eliminating foods is much healthier than it used to be, and I think that’s why this puts me in a really healthy place to be working with digestive/gut healing right now.
