I don’t use a lot of specialty foods when I eat. What do I mean by specialty foods? For me I’m actually talking about extra protein powders, supplements, matcha, or ______ (fill in the blank.) These foods are ones that you might see going around Instagram, and though I LOVE seeing the creations that people use to make their foods I want to encourage you that you don’t have to use matcha or protein powder to enjoy food. You can just enjoy food. Of course God DEFINITELY made matcha, so it is a good thing. God created protein, and He gave someone the idea for protein powder, so these are all good things. I just don’t use a lot of them besides collagen and BCAA’s (which I won in a giveaway!)
I’m not really a girl that has to have her caviar either. I just love bread and butter, crackers and cheese, salad and dressing.
I like simple foods. It makes it easier for me to not focus on food. I like eating a bowl of oatmeal that has milk, peanut butter, honey, and some dried fruit or nuts. I just like easy food.
Of course I also like making a batch of cupcakes or delicious cookies. These aren’t exactly simple to make, but they’re fun for me to make. I like my breakfasts to be simple, but I love to make my desserts … um… more complicated. I’m still learning on how to style and slow down to make the desserts look beautiful, because I know God loves beauty because He made beauty.
But I love simple when it comes to breakfast. I love a slice of oatmeal chocolate chip banana bread for breakfast with nut butter and jam.
I love simple foods when it comes to a snack or breakfast or lunch. I love a little bowl of yogurt or a big bowl of yogurt with fruit and of course… nut butter. I like to grab an apple and drizzle it with nut butter or honey.
Of course it’s fun to vary the toppings, but you don’t have to add a lot of different powders to make it a delicious nourishing bowl.
When it comes to a salad at lunch time, some times I have time to chop up a bunch of ingredients, but other times I’m finding it’s okay and wonderful to get together a salad that has
And that is a DELICIOUS salad. Speaking of watermelon, I want to give a shoutout to both Taylor and Julie for inspiring me to try watermelon in a more ‘savory’ setting with their watermelon recipe posts that went more of the savory direction.
Sometimes the food I eat isn’t pretty, but it’s still tasty. The other day I ate part of a leftover omelette. I actually really like to style the food on my plate to try to make it look pretty. Lex from @restoring_radiance on Instagram made me think about how I love to do this when she was interviewed on Georgie’s podcast.
But . . . some times my food isn’t pretty.
That’s ok. It’s nourishing. It’s delicious. It’s a. precious. gift of provision from God.
Psalm 148:7-9, ‘Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps: Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word: Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:’
Everything praises the Lord that He has made including the veggies and the eggs in that omelette.
Most of all the biggest thing for me whether I’m eating specialty food or more simple food, I want to learn to praise the Lord, to be thankful for everything, not to despise simple or specialty food.
It’s all a gift, and it’s ok if you want to enjoy any of it.
‘Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.’ (Psalm 150)
