Remember: These posts are all from my own personal experience. I’m not a doctor or a nutritionist, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt!
It’s time for another ‘Take Care of Your Temple Tuesday’ with Alyssa. . . I feel like a radio announcer saying that, but really. Today I’m going to share about the simple gift of snacking, why it was a gift to become comfortable with it in recover. I even learned that ‘snacking didn’t make me fat.’
That almost sounds silly to admit that, but if Christ has made me free, I can freely share every part of these struggles no matter how tiny they seem, because Christ conquers ALL!
I’ve been thinking about how the body is such a wondrous creation of God especially after a week of watching or … a few days of watching Olympic athletes accomplish such incredible athletic feats.
Truly the wonder and majesty of God is shown through so many things around me; I just need to stop and look and wonder.
Today is the day that I get to collaborate with Alyssa, one of my precious blogger friends and sisters in the Lord. If you didn’t catch the post last week, it was all about amenorrhea.
Lyss and I switched places, and Alyssa made a cool Vlog about her experience with ‘Hypothalamic Amenorrhea,’ that I hope you can watch!
Today is a day to talk about:
The Glory of God in creating the human body
I hope to especially emphasize how I’m learning that the truth of Christ needs to be the foundation for everything I do, including the way I treat my body. Or else I just go completely off course like a crazy car that careens all over the place.
I’m not a ‘prime example’ or really ‘good at this’, but it’s just a super wonderful blessing to be able to share and learn from Alyssa and others as we walk this road together.
Proverbs 27:17, ‘ Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.’
The most comforting thing is that the foundation is the Word of God. <3 Whenever I’m confused, which is often, or fearful, which is too often, His living Word provides so much comfort and wisdom that really is so wonderful.
2 Timothy 3:16-17, ‘All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.’
Where does snacking come into all of this?
Well, I used to be really afraid of snacking. I thought snacking would make me fat. I thought that if I snacked, it would become a mindless activity, and I would eat too much, and … I become irrational about it to the point of fearing snacking.
This would kind of go under the list of fears that I shared in yesterday’s post about fear.
What is true about the human body to begin with?
1) God made us in His image.
2) God told His children not to be anxious.
3) God made bodies, fearfully and wonderfully. God made food to show us another part of His glory and goodness and mercy.
Genesis 1:29, ‘Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”’
4) And God gives life. God is the Author of life. The devil takes life. The devil is a liar.
Matthew 4:4, ‘Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
So why is snacking not a bad thing?
Well, as God’s creations, we need to take care of this body that He’s made.
Now, I’m not telling you that you ‘have’ to snack, because that would be greatly narrowing the application, but if you’re afraid of it like I was in recovery, ask yourself, ‘Why?’
I found that snacking was a blessing for several reasons:
#1) It actually enabled me to not over eat and really listen to hunger signals without being ‘obsessive’ over eating enough at a meal. I don’t get ‘over full’ at a meal, and eating more frequently actually helped me eat more, because the eating was spread out instead of trying to stuff in what I needed to eat at a meal.
#2) Stopping in the middle of the day to get a snack was a breather to stop and just count God’s mercies and think of His goodness and incredible grace. – Sometimes when I’m rushing around and trying to ‘get things done’, I forget the truths that I should be meditating on, that I should be standing strong in the LORD and the power of HIS might.
When I stop and think about how I’m trying to ‘stand’ in the power of ‘Emily’s might’ it’s such a good opportunity to remember that ‘My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.’
Those little snacks (even though they seem little) are a reminder that God provides for every single need of my body and most of all my soul, and I never never have to worry about it.
Matthew 6:25-26, ‘“Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?‘
#3) It made me get creative with my snack choices and the Lord used it to show me how I needed to get over so much of my pickiness and ungratefulness that I struggled with as a child.
That’s where ‘Love With Foods’ comes into the picture….
Thank you Love with Foods for the Deluxe Snack Box! All opinions expressed are my own, and I only share companies that I appreciate and enjoy!
I reached out to Love with Foods, and I said, ‘Can I share your snacks with my blog and recovery friends?’ They said, ‘YES!’
And so we have a really fun box of a huge variety of snacks that showed up in the mailbox to share.
So far, these snacks have been life savers for a post church service snack and a HURRIED lunch this afternoon because of moving boxes. We’ll talk about that later. 🙂
I’ve tried the ‘Luna bar’ and the ‘Beanitos’ which kind of taste like a pretty good version of Cheetos. However, the ingredients list is a lot simpler than Cheetos. (I’m not against Cheetos.) I just love it when I know what most of the ingredients are …
This is from their website,

Say goodbye to boring grocery selections and start snacking smart and doing good with Love With Food.’
Luke 3:11, ‘And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”’
I think this would be something that Jesus would appreciate, because He was always feeding those who were hungry. He fed the 5000 with an amazingly small amount of food by His supernatural power, and most of all He fed people’s souls with LIFE giving spiritual food.
Their mission is great, and I think that I would rate the price of the box as about a 7/10. It probably would be cheaper to buy your own snacks at the store, but if you love a really simple, FAST way to get snacks (in order to make sure you’re not skipping meals so you’re starving later), Love With Foods seems to be one of the biggest snack boxes I’ve seen.
They even have quite a few gluten-free options, and I’m waiting to dig into the ‘Gluten Free’ box they sent in order to share that with you too! 🙂
With that, I hope you now know that you have my support to go have a snack, to keep your engine revved and going all day long, because I’m finding that the more I learn to fuel (without worshipping the fuel), the more I can serve the Lord Jesus with a clear mind, a nourished body, and a energized heart.
Most of all, Jesus is the very bread of life that satisfies the deepest hunger, the hunger of the soul everyday.
John 6:35, ‘Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”’
