I love finding new blogs to read, but you have to be careful in recovery. There are blogs that would aid you in recovery, and blogs that would be detrimental to recovery. It’s not the blogs that would be detrimental are bad blogs; it’s the fact that they are usually at a point in life or health that would trigger or bring you back to places in your eating disorder that you don’t need to go back to.
It took me a while to find those blogs that would help my recovery. You have to know your trigger points, the things that may stumble you, and you have to find blogs that would align with those things…
What were some of those things for me/my mental, emotional, physical, spiritual state?
1. Blogs That Didn’t Overly Focus on Calories or Weight Loss
2. Blogs that Focus on Over All Health and Wellness, not just one area of health
3. Most of all, I love blogs that keep me wondering at how gracious and good and amazing God is…. (These aren’t always Christian blogs, but I’m amazed at how God uses different blogs to remind me of His wonders and His grace.)
4. Blogs that allow for a lot of freedom in eating. Some of the blogs that really stand out to me here are:
Bucket List Tummy – Sarah is a dietitian who has really really made me feel freer around eating than ever before. The coolest part is that she is a health professional that allows for so much freedom in eating.
Katalyst Health – Kat eats everything from QUINOA to chocolate to donuts … as long as they are gluten free. She’s not a fan of fad diets; she loves strength. She doesn’t compare her eating; but she shares her journey to freedom in eating (which is always a huge blessing to all those who read her blog)
My Little Tablespoon – Cora is VERY open with her struggles with food fears and such, but she eats a HUGE variety. She doesn’t seem like she wants to cut things out, just because, and she is always wanting to challenge food fears.
5. Blogs That Delve Into The Deeper, Harder Parts of Recovery (And Life After Recovery) With Joy, Hope, and Compassion
The Real Life RD – I know many of you read Robyn, so I don’t need to say anymore. She is a HUGE blessing and gift to MANY ladies.
Blissful Lyss – Lyss is raw, real, honest, and encouraging always. She has a particular gift for talking about, sensitively, struggles with depression, self harm, not comparing yourself to others, and embracing life after recovery.
Daily Moves and Grooves – Alison is the very first recovery blog I found, and I’m still reading. She shines a gentle love for the Lord, a sweet savor of Christ, and the HOPE for complete recovery that all recovery warriors need.
6. Blogs that Focus on the Gift of Food, Not the Calories Contained In Food
Joy Food Sunshine – Laura is a sweet precious mama that is not afraid to cook anything. She does green smoothies, delicious chocolatey brownies, cake, and amazing cinnamon bread. Her blog has so many good recipes, and she never focuses on calories.
Fit Mitten Kitchen – Ashley does not shy away from ANY kind of food. She has AMAZING cakes, refreshing breakfasts, and incredible cookies. And she balances it all with salads, roasted veggies, and more.
Now…. I could keep writing, but instead I’m going to review more blogs on a mini podcast episode for you. I’m going to talk about blogs that talk about exercise, another major recovery blog that I found years ago that is still hugely influential in my life, and even some fun life blogs I like to visit almost every day.
Last of all please keep in mind that the blogs that aid me in recovery might not aid you. Use wisdom in finding the blogs that are right for you. <3
